6-Day Milne Bay Tour

Day 1: Bomana War Cemetery - Alotau (Milne Bay)

We begin with a guided tour of the Bomana War Cemetery, the largest war burial ground in the Pacific. Among the over 3700 servicemen buried at Bomana are Bruce Kingsbury VC, Harold Bisset, and Breton Langridge. At the cemetery, we dine of aigir, a traditional Tolai dish cooked out of hot stones. Then we return to the hotel for check out before catching our flight to Alotau.

Day 2: Alotau - Ahioma - Rabe

The tours takes from the Alotau township to the beaches of Ahioma, where the relics of Japanese barges remain. In town, we drive up to Top Town Lookout for a panoramic view of Milne Bay before returning for a tour of the market and the Alotau War Memorial, as well as several churches and hospitals. Our next stop is the village of Rabe, where we experience the local culture and its cuisine, and learn about the traditional customs and beliefs. We also visit the village's artefacts shop before returning to the Driftwood Resort for the evening.


Day 3: Turnbull - Wahuhuba - Goilanai - KB Mission

Our tour of Milne Bay battle sites begins at the Turnbull War Memorial and continues to Wahuhuba Bay, where Japanese forces first landed. From there, we head Corporal John French Memorial at Goilanai River and KB Mission, where some of the area's fiercest and most chaotic fighting took place. We return to Driftwood Resort for the evening.

Day 4: East Cape - Skull Cave - Snorkelling

Our Day 4 destination, East Cape, is the easternmost tip of Milne Bay. Along the way, we visit the skull caves and learn about the local culture and history, including the impact of World War II an Christian missionaries. We also have the opportunity to see China Strait, tour the fishing village of East Cape, and snorkel one of the coral reefs. We have lunch at the beach before heading back to Driftwood.

Day 5: Blue Water Fishing Expedition

Day 5 is daylong fishing expedition. We set sail from Driftwood Wharf on a 27 foot boat and visit various fishing spots, including a sunken barrier reef running along the southern shores of Milne Bay. Lunch is a seafood BBQ. After the fishing expedition, we head back to Driftwood for the evening.

Day 6: Port Moresby

Tour paricipants fly from Alotau's Gurney Airport to Port Moresby. Our staff meets you at Jackson's International Airport and take you back to Holiday Inn. Flights out of Papua New Guinea leave the next day.
