Trek and Tour Groups

We can create custom tours for groups of any size. However, we feel that smaller groups provide a more enjoyable, sociable experience, in addition to being safer and having less impact on the environment.

If you want to trek or tour with people outside your group, please notify us when you make your booking.

Group Discount

Kokoda Trail Expeditions offers a 10% group discount, if you are booking as a group i.e. have two or more people in your group. It’s also possible for you to receive that discount as an individual – just have others join you on your trek or tour, and we’ll apply the group discount.

We also offer a 12% Children's Discoun for children between 10-17 years of age. Minors below 18 years must be accompanied by a parent, teacher, or legal guardian. If unaccompanied by a parent, or legal guardian, we require a written consent from the children's parents or guardian to trek. It also important to ensure that the child is physically and medically fit before trekking. The child must be cleared by a doctor in this circumstance.

Three-Month Payment Plan

We offer an installment payment plan for those who want to pay over the course of three months.

Preparation for Your Trek or Tour

Before setting off on your Kokoda adventure, make sure you complete the following steps:

  • Get medical clearance from a qualified doctor
  • Complete our Kokoda Trek Fitness Program
  • Get any necessary vaccinations, prescriptions, and/or medications
  • Buy return ticks to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
  • Purchase travel insurance from QBE Insurance
  • Arrange for your visa entry into Papua New Guinea
  • Make sure your passport is valid

How Far in Advance Should I Book My Trek?

To ensure enough time for preparations, logistics, and administration, book your trek or tour at least four weeks in advance of the departure date.

Note: Payments via our payment plans must be completed one month before the departure date.

Military History Trek Bookings

Book a Military History Trek if you would like greater insight on the Kokoda campaign and/or the Buna, Gona, and Sanananda battles. These treks run from February to November, and include comprehensive briefs on the battles.

Ecotourism Trek Bookings

Our military history treks include ecotourism. You’ll spend a day in a Kokoda village and enjoy its natural environment, flora, and fauna, and receive a welcome from the beautiful, friendly people of Kagi village. You'll try out their traditional meal and be entertained by the talented village choir.

ANZAC Day Trek/Tour Bookings

If you want to commemorate the military services of Australian soldiers during the Kokoda Campaign, battle of beachheads at Buna, Sanananda, and Gona, Milne Bay, Rabaul, and in other conflicts, and peacekeeping operations around the world, book an ANZAC Day trek or tour. These trips run between April and May, and include dawn services on ANZAC Day at the Bomana War Cemetery and Isurava for our fallen soldiers and servicemen.

If you would rather tour than trek, an ANZAC Day tour is for you. These tours include visits to the battlefields and other areas military significance, including the Bomana War Cemetery, Popondetta, and Kokoda.

Australian guides will accompany groups of two or more.

Buna, Gona, and Sanananda Tour Bookings

Kokoda Trail Expeditions also offers short Kokoda battle tours (three days) as well as extended Kokoda battle and beachhead tours (thirteen days).
